I can see Fred winning the nomination.
According to GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio, about half of Republican voters are evangelicals or born again. For that reason, Giuliani and Romney (both of whom I like) are unlikely to triumph.
Except on certain issues (abortion, same-sex marriage) where religion dictates his position, Huckabee's a leftist. I wouldn't vote for him, and nor would many other social conservatives. So he's a very long shot.
That leaves McCain and Thompson. Of the two, Thompson's a more principled and consistent conservative. I think the race could come down to them, and Thompson's the stronger candidate.
Very exciting times.
